A Very Vintage Day: On a Hunt

Twill and I woke up at dawn, with a layer of snow to greet us, and headed out on a day of hunting. Our first stop was an estate sale, the house itself was amazing, filled with amazing wallpaper. Then we stopped off for a breakfast of champions . . . to-go oatmeal and large cups of coffee. We hit one more sale and headed over to the closest thrift where Twill caught up on her Mexican cooking.  We took the afternoon easy and lunched with the ladies. Gilda, the dog excitedly greeted us and we enjoyed some great curry and goat cheese caramelized onion naan. Yum!  Twill and I spent the rest of the day working on cataloguing and steaming. Whew! What a day, we hope you enjoy some of our finds, which will be at the Mighty Swell Sale in two weeks!

Vintage Photograph: Grandma Marlene

I spent a lot of this weekend thinking of one of my favorite ladies, my Grandma Marlene, who would have been 71 yesterday. I just had to share this fabulous photograph of her and my mom in the sixties. I drove all the way to Cottage Grove to buy a wonderfully inexpensive dress form off of Craigslist. Perfect for taking sneak peeks of Teacup Vintage's spring collection for Mighty Swell, and I couldn't resist stopping at another random thrift on the way home. I felt like she was there with me, as she was a great garage and rummage sale partner. I love you, Grandma Marlene, Happy Birthday!

Want an ivory shift dress like hers? How about this one or this one?

This Old House: Home Sweet Home

I am finally moved into my new Minneapolis apartment near Lake of the Isles, and after a few weekends of treasure hunting, decorating, and organizing, I am pretty happy with the outcome. I am realizing that pretty much everything in my apartment has been found thrifting or antiquing, or I have inherited, and I am satisfied with that. It is far from modern, very vintage-inspired, and calms me down when I walk in the door. It is nice to feel like I have both feet firmly on the ground again.

My new farmhouse table, found antiquing in Linden Hills. It has two leaves that I can add in, and the sides have drop-leaves. I can see myself having this for years to come. I just need to find some more dark stained wooden chairs. Swoon*

I found this vintage handmade rug on Etsy, it is the perfect mix of masculine and feminine, with nature scenes and earth tones. I love how the colors are subdued.

A Very Vintage Day: Couch Hunting

Twill and I spent the day together thrifting and vintage hunting, looking for apartment decor. I was on the hunt for a couch. We started at Cottage House where Twill found a great chair. Then we went to Broders for lunch, a great panini and salad were inhaled. And then off to Hunt and Gather. In the end, I think I found my couch! A great day spent with my favorite lady.

Twill wore a flannel skirt from American Apparel, a thrifted skinny leather belt, a J. Crew tank, a  ruffly sweater from Ambiance San Fran, Target tights, Minnetonka Moccasins and an adorable locket from an estate sale, soon to hold a picture of me ;)
