Day one of the Mighty Swell Summer in the City Sale is done! Thanks to everyone that came out today, and of course a big thanks to Meghan and Rae for their amazing work. There will be more merchandise put out tomorrow, and still plenty of beautiful clothing and accessories to find their way to that perfect someone. The shop is open from 10-7. Yay!

The Shop: Those Are Some Mighty Swell Shoes You Have There

We are gearing up for the our shop's debut at the Mighty Swell vintage pop-up holiday sale next weekend (December 11-12) at Tarnish and Gold in NE Minneapolis. The Shop: Animal Sweater

I have been seeing a lot of animal sweaters around this season, particularly this one in the November Urban Outfitters catalog. It's sort of so uncool it's cool, like Bret from Flight of the Conchords and his 80's animal shirts.

So imagine my surprise when I am shopping for Teacup and I come across this handmade, zip back hooded infant sweater of the same theme! I love it. Look at that collie dog detail, so charming.

This hat is so great! I love the velour texture and the color is impossibly great. The details of this vintage hat are perfection. I can't wait to see the lucky person who falls in love with this hat as much as I have.

The Happenings: Mighty Swell Holiday Sale!

Teacup Vintage is officially selling our goods at the Mighty Swell Holiday Sale! We are so excited to be a part of this group of amazing vendors. Even better news, my lovely Twill is flying home for the event. Vintabulous! We hope to see everyone there.

The Shop: The Trailer with the Pink Stove that Won My Heart

We have been doing our research on mobile shop options, and still love the idea of getting a vintage trailer to host our vintage goods and tea stuffs. There are so many cute options out there, it is just a matter of finding the right one for our purpose, and deciding whether we are up for the task of restoring it ourselves from the bottom up. Maybe it will be our project for next spring when Ladybird comes out to Portland for a visit, or maybe we will find some friends who want to help us in a vintage trailer fixer upper project?

I found one on Craigslist in Olympia, WA this weekend and almost went for it. It was so cute with a pink stove, perfect for making tea, but it needed a lot of work. Sometimes I wish I could just pause, then fast forward time, but I'm sure the stars will align when the time is right.

What We Wore To The Happenings: Getting Lost

On my way to do a little thrifting for The Shop, I got lost and wound up driving by a market. So I stopped to see what it was about, and it ended up being a farmer's market. Since I only had a limited amount of cash I ended up with just a bunch of purple kale, but I took a few pictures. While I was shooting, a man behind me said "You gonna take my picture? Or will I break the lens?" So I took a quick shot of him, and wound up talking to this cabbage farmer for a long while. An interesting man with a hearty laugh. All in all a pretty good day.

The Shop: The Jacket to Match the Shoes

 I scored this vintage jacket today that I think matches perfectly with these shoes that Ladybird (*A) found a while back. Swirly perfection!

The Shop: Pile of Children's Clothing

I found so many wonderful vintage children's pieces today, it could have been a pile to jump in, like the fallen leaves! I will post more photos of my favorite individual items at a later date.

The Shop: Running Out of Space

Our ideas are still brewing, but we are on our way. Our vintage and thrifted finds are piling up in our respective homes, hers in Portland and mine in Minneapolis. My reading chair stacked full of the "red family" finds so long I have yet to finish my month old read  Klosterman's latest, Eating the Dinosaur.

The Shop: Attention to Detail

Twill and I have been scrutinizing over minor details. We are by nature, perfectionists. So today, when thinking about the price tags, I had an idea for handmade, recycled tags. I thrifted a book on pressed flowers and decided to use that book for our tags, cut out in the shape of teacups. I just started, made the templates and began the process. I think they turned out mighty cute!

The Shop: Dreaming of a Vintage Trailer

We have been thinking about how to get our shop up and running for some time now, and although we are intrigued by the idea of having an online vintage store, we want more than that. We want the interaction, a way to host vintage-inspired, dress-up tea parties for children, and to sell warm cups of tea while people shop for women's and children's vintage clothing. We have considered trying to get a food cart and expand it to selling retail (the food cart business is thriving in Portland, and Ladybird had experienced it back at the University of Madison as well). We were thinking today, how clever it would be to find a vintage travel trailer to house our beautiful wares and teacups! We could come to festivals, different neighborhoods, flea markets, and sell our goods, maybe settling in a lovely food cart pod along the way. I'm not sure if there are other folks doing this around here, but if they are, we would love to be your neighbor and start a mobile shopping community in Portland! Spring 2012?

The Shop: Getting Started

Twill and I have been working on the ideas for a vintage shop for years. We are still in its inception, but the business plan, location, and ideas are coming together. We hope to have it up and running within two years. We hope that you enjoy the journey as much as we will.
