Vintage Inspired: Tobogganing

In the thick of the winter, there is nothing better than going sledding with two darling kids. We bundled to the brim and set out on our plastic orange toboggan. It was a short lived run, but a good one, full of giggles and red cheeks. We tipped over, got oodles of snow down our boots and had ice cold fingers, but isn't that what winter is all about? When they seemed to be tuckered out (which only took about five minutes), we came home to some homemade banana macadamia nut muffins and some hot lemon tea. Wonderful winter day!

Vintage Inspired: Jack O' Lanterns

I found a bunch of vintage Sesame Street picture books and they reminded me so much of my childhood. When Alex and I were at the pumpkin patch last weekend, we found some pretty uniquely shaped pumpkins, one that looked remarkably similar to Bert's ovular head. It was then on the spot that we decided we would make Bert and Ernie jack o' lanterns this year. I worked on Bert and Alex created Ernie. It was the first time that we have carved pumpkins together and it was a fun new tradition for us on our first Halloween in Portland.

The Shop: Pile of Children's Clothing

I found so many wonderful vintage children's pieces today, it could have been a pile to jump in, like the fallen leaves! I will post more photos of my favorite individual items at a later date.

In honor of fall and the start of a new school year, here is a photo of me on my very first day of school at age 3. Yes, the book Colors CAN be read upside down (good thing I was so cute in my plaid dress, nobody noticed).

I remembered this photo after seeing the one of me in Amsterdam. Here I am at about 2 years old smelling the "ant flowers" in my yard, sporting a grandma knit sweater, oshkosh b'gosh overalls and a cute white T.  For years, I thought that these flowers were where ants came from because they would swarm out of each bloom, as though it was their womb.

I still smell the flowers with the same excitement and wonder.

Repurposed: Little Black Dress

Using one black dress, a lot of donated accessories, and spoonfuls of creativity, this woman raised enough money for 287 children to go to school! Check out The Uniform Project.
