The Shop: Dreaming of a Vintage Trailer

We have been thinking about how to get our shop up and running for some time now, and although we are intrigued by the idea of having an online vintage store, we want more than that. We want the interaction, a way to host vintage-inspired, dress-up tea parties for children, and to sell warm cups of tea while people shop for women's and children's vintage clothing. We have considered trying to get a food cart and expand it to selling retail (the food cart business is thriving in Portland, and Ladybird had experienced it back at the University of Madison as well). We were thinking today, how clever it would be to find a vintage travel trailer to house our beautiful wares and teacups! We could come to festivals, different neighborhoods, flea markets, and sell our goods, maybe settling in a lovely food cart pod along the way. I'm not sure if there are other folks doing this around here, but if they are, we would love to be your neighbor and start a mobile shopping community in Portland! Spring 2012?

Happy Birthdays

Today is my birthday and ever since I can remember, my mom has been throwing birthday parties to remember. I think with all parties, it is the attention to detail that makes memories stick. Powdered sugar donuts hanging by string from the ceiling-using only our mouths to eat them, sipping sparkling juice out of fancy glasses, balloons tied to your chair with a pretty little bow, homemade cupcakes in different flavors, a loud singing choir of all your favorite people, and don't forget the party hats!

Being organizers at heart and teachers by trade, I think Ladybird and I should add party planners to our list of will-dos. I think with our suitcases of fine vintage wares, we could throw the vintage inspired, dress-up tea party of the century! I see hats, bows, ribbons, jewelry, shawls, scarves, high heeled shoes, vintage teacups and saucers, floral handkerchief napkins, pink lemonade in little jam jars, finger cakes and cookies, lovely crafts, paper flowers, and maybe some sort of homemade photo booth.

Background

Teacup Vintage was created by a duo of twenty-somethings who have shared 15 years of friendship. We have a love for all things vintage and child-friendly. Our adventures in vintage and thrifting started when we were wee tots and our grandmothers insisted on making all the dresses our moms couldn't find at the local thrift. We have fond memories of wearing those dresses (lovely little ladies with skinned knees), sitting criss-cross applesauce on hand crocheted afghans, wearing hundreds of "pearls", and sipping peppermint tea. When we were teenagers, we raided our mothers' closets and wore everything from hand-made 70's prom dresses to bell-bottoms (photos to come, you are in for a treat). We both went to University for education and continue to work with children as nannies and teachers. We love to write about vintage and handmade wares, children, tea parties, cooking, travel, and the big and small adventures in our everyday lives.
